I wrote this news release to generate publicity for the new Alice House website. It was featured on the front page of the Halifax Star the following morning.

ALICE HOUSE LAUNCHES NEW WEBSITE FOR WOMEN EXPERIENCING INTIMATE PARTNER VIOLENCE IN NOVA SCOTIA
Dartmouth, N.S., April 11, 2018 – A new website with information about how to get help with fleeing intimate partner violence in Nova Scotia is now online. Alice House is urging the public to log on to www.alicehouse.ca to learn what abuse is and who to call if abuse is happening to them or someone they know.
“More women are gaining the courage to escape abuse and seek safe housing and counselling,” says Heather Byrne, executive director of Alice House. “They are asking: How can I receive support for my specific situation? Who can I turn to?”
The website has a fill-in-the-blank guide for what to think about before taking action and explains what is offered by Alice House to women in need. It also suggests how community members can make a difference for those facing abuse in an intimate partnership.
“Help is out there. I hope everyone knows they don’t have to face abuse alone,” says Julia*, past resident of Alice House. “It is so helpful to have so much information on a single website.”
